Sorting classes

Sorting classes and tree types in our nursery

Whether a fruit tree achieves certain quality depends on various factors. Indicators are the sorting class, tree type and rootstock. The sorting class indicates how many shoots the young tree will produce; the tree type indicates how much time has passed since grafting; the rootstock indicates the plant's vigour. In our Vitafruit nursery, we offer three different sorting classes to always respond specifically to wishes and requirements.

Our range includes fruit trees that classify as 7+, 5+ and 3+. The numbers indicate how many fully formed branches the young tree has, which guarantee a yield in the short term.

The sorting classes at a glance

So what does it mean to plant a 7+ or a 5+ tree on your plantation? That also depends on the tree types, which have different cultivation periods. Therefore, we must consider the right combination between sorting class, tree type, and rootstocks.

First of all, the characteristics of our sorting classes:

  • 7+-tree: a very well-branched tree with at least 7 well-matured side shoots and good rooting.
  • 5+-tree: a well-branched tree with at least 5 well-matured side shoots and good rooting.
  • 3+-tree: a rudimentary branched tree with at least 3 well-matured side shoots and susceptible rooting.

The tree types at a glance

Our nursery uses different tree types for young trees to specifically meet your requirements and wishes.

We offer the following tree types:

    • • 1-year old: This tree has grown for one year - or more precisely 18 months - since grafting.
      Height: between 1.5 m and 1.8 m.
    • Knip: This tree has grown for two years since grafting.
      Height: between 1.8 m and 2.2 m.
    • 9-Monats-Baum: This tree has grown for nine months since grafting.
      Height: between 1.3 m and 1.6 m.

    The rootstocks at a glance

The rootstock is an important factor. As with all the other factors, the climate plays an important role here. Some altitudes are more suitable for a rootstock than others, but the same applies to temperatures, humidity, or soil quality.

    We sell the following rootstocks:

    • M9 T337
    • M 26
    • MM 106
    • MM 11

During consulting with our Vitafruit advisors, we define the right combination and ideal solution for your orchard.
